For limited companies, LLPs and other corporate entities in the UK, the landscape of annual filings is undergoing major change. The ﹙Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA 2023) ushers in a new era of digital-first, software-only filing for annual accounts. At H. Financial Solutions Ltd we explain what’s coming, when it applies, and what you must do to stay compliant.
What’s changing? A digital-only future
- From 1 April 2027, all companies and LLPs will need to file their annual accounts using commercial software. Web-based or paper submissions for accounts will no longer be accepted. (ICAS)
- From 31 March 2026, the joint filing service for accounts and corporation tax returns will be closed. After that date, companies will need software for their CT600 filings. (GOV.UK)
- Increased disclosure: Small and micro-entity companies must prepare profit & loss accounts and full-format filings — reduced disclosure (abridged accounts) may be phased out. (Grant Thornton NI)
- Identity verification: From 18 November 2025 (and a transition period), new directors and PSCs must verify identity. Existing directors will be required during their next confirmation statement. (GOV.UK)
Why this matters
The filing system is being upgraded for accuracy, transparency, and fraud prevention. As the register becomes digital‐native, companies need to be ready with software, data integrity and proper governance. If you delay, you face higher cost, disrupted systems or compliance risk.
What you should do now
- Ensure your accounting and filing software is compatible with commercial filing standards (iXBRL tagging etc.).
- Review your company’s filing practices: do you use paper, web-only, or agent systems? Prepare to transition.
- Download and archive past filings (at least 3 years) — some services will become unavailable after April 2026. (ICAS)
- Review your governance and secretarial systems: director/PSC ID verification, statutory registers, and compliance reporting.
- Engage your advisor early — the move to software-only filing is not just technical, but organisational and strategic.
